Turkey Karaz Rug - 2.10x1.30 BalouchiRug weaving started in Turkey since 13th century with the arrival of the Seljuks , who were nomadic tribes from central Asia. In Ottoman Turkey, weaving patterns and techniques changed in the early sixteenth century after conquests in Persia and Egypt. Anatolia had been known for carpets with stylized animal and geometric designs, but with these new cultural contacts, carpets designed around a central medallion and with flowing saz style vegetation
and ivory backgrounds using both natural and synthetic dyes
In both style and composition it is of the highest order
particularly the circular central medallion with its two pendants reaching out length wise and the shape of the border of the main field

The centre has a gentle blue present and this contrasts perfectly with the somewhat darker and warmer colours in the rest of the carpet
in the center there is a large right-angled medallion with large marked corner sections
The colours are strong and delightful
which help to emphasis the parchment colour base of the main field
is the most prominent feature of this rug
