Vase Of Irises By Van Gogh 3. Select Size:20cm x 25Cm [8" x 10"]Van Gogh painted four flamboyant bouquets of spring flowers in May 1890, just before he checked himself out of the Saint Rmy asylum. These were the only ambitious still lifes he had attempted during his year long stay: two of irises and two of roses, in contrasting colour schemes and formats. In the Irises in the Museum, he used fugitive red paints to create a "pink background" that subsequently faded to achieve a "harmonious and delicate" impression.
