Michel Couvreur Spirale Single Malt 18 years 51% 500ml BarossaDistilled in Scotland in 1994 and matured in a wine cask from Jura. Deep amber copper with some sediment evident. Plush aromatics hint at dried fruits, vanilla then later, beeswax, light raisin cake plus whispers of ginger and sulphur. Quite intense, with ginger and cardamom featuring on the palate, followed by malt and bittersweet oak. Well balanced spices. Shows solid length. The name refers to a style of wine made from grapes dried on straw mats.

Fine-grained tannins finishing fresh

using hundred-year-old oak trees from the estate La Peraudiere which were chosen in 1989 for the exceptional subtlety of their grain

Roasted notes and reminiscences of pastries and liqueur coffee

with its flavours of vanilla and liquorice

The resulting wine is fresh with great elegance yet also texture and great length and depth to the palate

which shimmers with citrus pith substance before a firm and delicately saline finish

honey and sea water

Sweetness is noticeable but well balanced
